With a line up of guitar, kazoo, jug and washboard, the Memphis Jug Band, although associated with Blues, were really an all round entertainment group. They always remained a band with a lot of time for Blues but soon diversified into traditional songs, pop and eventually self composed material. Over eight years and 80 sides they amassed one of the most varied and fascinating bodies of work in the history of Black music. Full discography and biographical details are included in the booklet, annotated by Tony Russell, that accompanies these 25 tracks recorded between 1927 and 1934.
